"Women in Architecture" at Harvard University

On International Women's Day 2025, Sky-Frame collaborated with the renowned architectural practice Foster + Partners to host an exclusive screening of the documentary series "Women in Architecture". The event, featuring part one and two of the series, brought together architects and staff from Foster + Partners to celebrate and critically reflect on the diverse roles and contributions of women in the architectural profession.
The "Women in Architecture" documentary series highlights a crucial aspect of the architectural industry: whilst more women than men study architecture, decision-makers in the field remain predominantly male. The second part of the series profiles two impressive architects – Dorte Mandrup and Tosin Oshinowo – showcasing their unique perspectives, challenges, and achievements in a male-dominated industry. Together with the architects featured in the first part – Toshiko Mori, Gabriela Carrillo, and Johanna Meyer-Grohbrügge – these five women present an inspiring panorama of female creative work in the international architectural scene.
The event at Foster + Partners was not only held at their headquarters but also broadcast to the firm's international offices, emphasising the global reach and significance of the topic. The initiative reflects the growing awareness of the need for diversity and inclusion in the architectural profession.
Following the film screening, an engaging and lively discussion took place, enriched by the presence of the filmmakers: David Basulto, founder of ArchDaily; Boris Noir, director; and Andrea Zürcher, CMO of Sky-Frame. The discussion provided a platform for open dialogue about the challenges and progress of women in architecture, emphasising the importance of mentorship, networking, and visibility.
Through the "Women in Architecture" film series, Sky-Frame actively advocates for greater equality in the architectural industry. Foster + Partners' engagement as host underscores the importance of progressive corporate culture in promoting equal opportunities.
This initiative is more than just a documentary – it serves as a catalyst for conversation, awareness, and change. Sky-Frame remains committed to this important issue, underscoring its dedication not only to outstanding architecture and design but also to a more equitable and inclusive future for the industry, where talent and vision – regardless of gender – pave the way to success.
