Villa Girasole occupies a unique position on the world-famous Balbianello peninsular, with long views over Lake Como. The project transformed the striking 1960s villa with the central aims of further articulating the concept of the original villa, blurring the perceptions of internal and external living spaces and bringing the natural setting of lake and mountains into the heart of the villa.
The lake-facing masonry walls were replaced to express the existing terraces with the invisible Sky-Frame glazing system Classic. The terraces now appear to 'float' within the landscape. The large, sliding glass walls seamlessly connect the open-plan living spaces to the external covered porticos created by the cantilevered terraces, effectively doubling the size of the living spaces whilst offering breathtaking views over the water.
