Steirereck am Pogusch

The Steirereck am Pogusch is located in the picturesque Alps of Upper Styria, near Turnau - an outstanding example of modern architecture integrated into nature. This project unites catering and sustainability in a unique way and sets new standards in the symbiosis of people and the environment.

The project began with a competition in May 2018 and went through an intensive planning phase until March 2022. Construction work began in March 2020 and was completed in June 2022. PPAG architects ztgmbh excelled as general planners and realised the vision of the client Steirereck Stadtpark GmbH with precision and creativity. Existing buildings were renovated and modern new buildings were constructed.

The frameless Sky-Frame windows, which have been installed in both the new parlour and the bar kitchen, are particularly noteworthy. These windows ensure seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor areas and provide an uninterrupted view of the surrounding nature. They contribute significantly to the open and inviting atmosphere that characterises the Steirereck am Pogusch.

One highlight of the project is the large glass house, which allows plants to be grown all year round and offers innovative overnight accommodation. In contrast to this is the Small Glass House, which supplies the kitchen with fresh herbs and offers space for creative development. Both glass houses are architectural masterpieces that impress with their sustainable construction methods and state-of-the-art technologies.

A central element of the Steirereck am Pogusch is the comprehensive sustainability concept. The location achieves a plus-energy standard, which is supported by renewable energy sources such as solar thermal energy and photovoltaics as well as efficient resource utilisation and recycling management. This project is part of the "City of the Future" research programme of the Austrian Ministry for Climate Protection and Technology and impressively demonstrates how sustainable architecture and top gastronomy can be harmoniously combined.
