EPD - Environmental Product Declaration
An EPD (“Environmental Product Declaration”) contains information on a product’s environmental aspects (life cycle assessment / grey energy) and enables comparisons to be made between products with the same function.
It encompasses the product’s life cycle, including the environmental impacts in terms of resource consumption, CO2 emissions and sustainability. The life cycle assessment spans the environmental impacts “from cradle to factory gate” (A1 = raw materials supply, A2 = transportation, A3 = manufacture).
EPD for Sky-Frame
It must be possible to prove sustainability, and it brings transparency to the environmental impacts of Sky-Frame products. The EPD is the basis for the ecological rating of buildings in certification systems, such as DGNB (DE), LEED (USA), BREEAM (UK), HQE (F) and SNBS (CH).
The EPD is integrated into the environmental management system of Sky-Frame AG. Essentially, the environmental impacts of the manufacture of safety glass are determined. The life cycle assessment is positively influenced by the in-house photovoltaic system, which has already saved around 500 tonnes of CO2 in just four years. The internal powder-coating facility is also contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions, because the transit routes are no longer required.
Report from the ift Rosenheim testing institute
General product information is contained in the detailed report (in accordance with EN 15804) bearing the declaration number EPD-SF-27.0. It is valid for 1 m2 of the Sky-Frame 2 and Sky-Frame 3 technologies.
A project-specific EPD can be issued on request.
